FAQs

You're not the first person to have a question about Music Maestro. But before you contact us, have a look through these Frequently Asked Questions to see if the information you require is here.

Q: Time has moved on and we want to upgrade to the network version, and maybe an extra optional module. How easy is that?

A: Very easy: authorisation codes can be issued over the phone, giving you instant access to these modules once the signed agreement is returned to us.

Q: I am based in the US and have been using Music Maestro for a while now, and have recently struck a deal with a publisher in Australia. They have their own tailor-made system and royalty file format. What are the chances of getting this specific piece of functionality incorporated into my system?

A: As with all new interfaces it depends on the complexity of the file; most of them are straightforward and can be quickly added to the system. Once in place, the update would be available to all our clients via our website.

Q: I am a small publisher who holidays now and again in Spain. Can I use Music Maestro on both my PC at home, and set the same database up for use on my laptop for when I am away?

A: Yes, the movement of the database between a desktop PC and a laptop is very simple (using our dedicated Backup and Restore utility). This kind of usage is compliant with the terms of a Single User License.

Q: I am a large publisher with over 100,000 titles, with offices in the US, Germany and France. Can the system allow us to collaborate as one?

A: There is no physical limit to the size of catalog information you can store within the system. Music Maestro will allow you to maintain individual databases in each territory, respecting the various territory-specific copyright information. The Catalog Shipment module will then enable any new data which is added to any one system to be incorporated into the other two systems, creating a virtually-centralised database, with each site able to adapt the data to the requirements of their territory.

Q: I have a small office, with two users who will be using the system, but not at the same time. Will I need a network license?

A: No, Music Maestro is smart enough to realise a user is already accessing the database and will lock any additional users.

Q: I do not want to have to keep sending reams of paper statements to my affiliates. Surely there is an easier way?

A: Over ten years ago Counterpoint pioneered the concept of outputting royalty statement data into a file which can be read by other computer systems. As long as the publisher you are affiliated with uses a compatible system they will be able to accept a 'Royalty Transfer File' from you. This can be emailed to them saving courier costs as well as time and paper.

Q: I am no Windows expert - how easy is the software to install?

A: Pop in the CD, and follow the on-screen instructions. Whether you're installing a client-server network version or just the stand-alone version the options are easy to follow. We also provide you with a guide giving an overview of the installation procedure.
