ProFiles OXP allows the client to choose their own ODBC-compliant database (ORACLE, SQL, SYBASE, and DB2) in which to store their data. The native database in Pelican ProFiles is a proprietary Linear Hash Filing System. In order to make the data more readily accessible to a wide variety of software applications, the database in ProFiles OXP is stored only in a defined ODBC database. This is accomplished through a series of programs which access ODBC Dynamic Link Libraries to read and write data necessary for the application from and to an ODBC Database. These programs live and operate in the ProFiles product. The difference between the OXP Platform and the basic Data Warehousing module is that the data no longer physically resides within the ProFiles application. It can be both accessed and updated by any tool that understands ODBC-compliant databases. With OXP, the power of keeping multiple applications throughout an organization in sync becomes a reality since the OXP database can be populated and maintained by any of those applications. Like the Data Warehousing Module, ProFiles OXP comes with all of the tools necessary to setup and link the ProFiles application to an ODBC back-end database. These tools create, populate, and update the ODBC database in both batch mode and in real-time mode. ProFiles OXP also comes with an extensive data map of every field in the ODBC database.
